Les aiguilles de Bavella

Located in Upper Corsica, a few kilometers above Solenzara, the Bavella Needles (Aiguilles de Bavella) mountain range is one of the jewels of Corsica’s uplands.

The Bavella Needles are the heart of the Bavella range, made up of 7 towers that once divided northern and southern Corsica.

Getting to the Bavella Needles

From Porto-Vecchio:

If you are on holiday in the Porto-Vecchio region, head for Solenzara on the T10 road. When you arrive in Solenzara, head for the Col de Bavella and pay to park in the Bavella Needles car park.

From Bastia:

If you’re on holiday in northern Corsica, you’ll need to take the T10 road towards Solenzara. Just as you enter the village of Solenzara head towards the Pass of Bavella. On arrival, there is a charge for parking at Bavella.

From Ajaccio.

From Ajaccio, take the D420 towards Zonza, then Bavella. Be careful, the mountain roads are tricky in Corsica. Parking at the Bavella Needles is free.

Where to swim in the Bavella Needles?

The Purcaraccia river runs for 5 kilometres through the Bavella Needles before emptying into the Solenzara river. Over time, the waters of the Purcaraccia have carved out a gorge in the heart of the Bavella peaks, forming a series of stunning waterfalls and natural pools of crystal-clear water. Without doubt the most beautiful waterfalls in Corsica.

The walk to the Purcaraccia waterfalls takes 1h30. The hike is moderately difficult. The waterfalls are accessible to all. For this reason, they are very popular in summer. We advise you to come early to visit the waterfalls in the best conditions.

An integral part of the GR20, the ‘tour des aiguilles’ trail offers a magnificent view of the entire mountain range. Starting from the Bavella pass, the path makes a loop, making it easy to return to the car park. The hike is fairly long and the gradient significant. It will take you 5 hours to complete the hike from the pass.
